The fire engine we take to respond to structure fires and car accidents is 27 years old. As our first line of defense, it allows us to bring personnel, water, firefighting equipment and other necessary rescue tools to an emergency.
After considering our growing community’s need, the current truck’s age, production times extending 4 years, and ensuring we were locking in the current cost, the fire department went ahead and committed to the purchase of the replacement engine. The new engine will have the ability to carry added medical equipment, has a larger storage capacity, increased seating and will maximize the safety of our firefighters.
While new Engine 294 has been ordered, we are asking for your donations to help pay for it. Without your assistance, it will be a challenge to maintain our normal operations, recognizing increased costs of gear, equipment, maintenance, insurance and training.
Ely Volunteer Fire Department is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization that depends on community support.
